The TV viewing experience is changing with the explosion of connected consumer electronics devices. In order to remain competitive, service providers have no choice but to come up with attractive offers and various business models to meet the growing consumer’s expectations.
SmarDTV and NAGRA are helping operators to extend their offer beyond set-top boxes, enabling new business models on horizontal devices notably through the deployment of CAMs (Conditional Access Modules). Since the introduction of CI Plus, SmarDTV and NAGRA have been providing operators with a device that has become as secure and reliable as the traditional set-top boxes. It integrates NAGRA’s state-of-the-art content protection technology and can be plugged on any consumer device that includes a CI Plus interface.
By introducing CAMs into their pay-TV ecosystem, service providers are able to offer premium content direct to integrated digital televisions without any specific software integration in the host device.
Multiple content protection models
SmarDTV CAMs support multiple security models that bring NAGRA Media Access card-based or/and embedded, as well as NAGRA Media PRM to any type of network without any specific software integration in the host devices
Certified Security
SmarDTV CAMs have successfully passed the NAGRA Advanced Security Certification (NASC). As part of NASC, NAGRA On-Chip Security (NOCS) provides a unified and certified hardware root of trust, recognized by the industry with more than 80 million units deployed from the major silicon vendors.
Enables new revenues
The introduction of CAMs can generate increased revenue for service providers without the CAPEX that a set-top box investment requires. CAMs enable for new revenue streams in a horizontal market, providing access to potential subscribers who already have a CI Plus enabled digital television.
Pay TV User Experience
CI Plus CAMs can enable a Pay-TV experience with tailor-made applications, with customized user interfaces. User interfaces can be provided through the host television using MHEG5, through a companion device or through a cloud based UI.
Green Model
The introduction of CI Plus CAMs has a good environmental impact as they require one remote control, no HDMI cable and reduced energy consumption. The implementation of CI Plus CAM does not require any additional backend systems for service providers with an existing NAGRA deployments.
