A smartcard based conditional access is in most cases the preferred solution to secure content in a challenging broadcast environment. However the incentive for piracy is not the same in all situations. In some circumstances the security level and the wide range of countermeasures brought by a smartcard based system might be above and beyond the content protection expected by a digital television service provider.

The NAGRA Media Access DLK conditional access has been expressly designed for those cases where a service provider offers low value content with a low ARPU in a broadcast environment. It brings a suitable level of security without costs and logistics inherent with smartcards.

Using the same headend and same set-top box, terrestrial and satellite operators will be able to deploy NAGRA Media Access DLK to secure low-value basic packages, while protecting access to premium content with NAGRA Media Access CLK (smartcard based conditional access system).
